In a bid to safeguard biodiversity, environmentalists have urged Maharashtra authorities to officially recognize the 12-hectare DPS Flamingo Lake in Navi Mumbai as a 'Conservation Reserve'.
Accusations have been leveled against the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) for placing greater value on real estate development, risking ecological integrity.
Despite scientific warnings, highlighted by the Bombay Natural History Society, about the importance of these wetlands in preventing aviation risks, a government resolution to protect the area remains stalled.
