India Braces for Relentless Heatwave in May
The India Meteorological Department forecasts severe heatwave conditions across northwest and central India. Temperatures are expected to rise significantly, affecting various regions including Punjab, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and others until May 24. Some areas could see temperatures soaring by three to four degrees, urging public caution and preparedness.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning about potential heatwave to severe heatwave conditions likely to affect the plains of northwest and central India throughout the week.
According to the IMD's special bulletin, maximum temperatures are expected to climb gradually, increasing by two to three degrees Celsius in many parts of northwest India from Monday to May 24. In Chhattisgarh, temperatures may even rise by three to four degrees until May 21.
While Maharashtra and Gujarat will see stable temperatures until May 18, a decrease of two to three degrees Celsius is expected between May 19 and May 24. In the northern regions, isolated pockets such as Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi are bracing for heatwave conditions. Similarly, west and east Uttar Pradesh could experience severe heatwaves from Tuesday. Additional regions affected include Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and parts of Maharashtra and Telangana.
