Intense heat sweeping across Punjab and Haryana over the past few days continued unabated on Thursday, with Faridkot and Sirsa emerging as the hottest places in the two states, officials said.

Faridkot in Punjab recorded a maximum temperature of 45.9 degrees Celsius while, Sirsa in Haryana sizzled at 45.8 degrees Celsius, according to the Meteorological Department.

Several other parts of the two states also witnessed severe heatwave conditions with temperatures remaining well above normal.

Chandigarh, the common capital of Punjab and Haryana, recorded another sweltering day at 44.2 degrees Celsius, more than four notches above normal.

In Haryana, Rohtak recorded a maximum temperature of 45.5 degrees Celsius, five notches above normal.

Ambala registered 44.2 degrees Celsius, five degrees above normal, while Hisar recorded 44.3 degrees Celsius, three notches above normal.

Karnal recorded a high of 43.8 degrees Celsius, five degrees above normal, while Bhiwani also braved a hot day at 44 degrees Celsius. The maximum at Gurugram settled at 42 degrees Celsius.

In Punjab, Bathinda also reeled under heatwave conditions, with a high of 45.6 degrees Celsius.

Patiala recorded a high of 44.9 degrees Celsius, five degrees more than normal.

Ludhiana registered 43 degrees Celsius, four degrees above normal, while Amritsar recorded a high of 41.5 degrees Celsius.
