The Himachal Pradesh Police, in collaboration with the Department of Environment, Science, Technology and Climate Change, will organise an ''Anti-Chitta and Clean Environment Awareness Mini Marathon 2026'' in Shimla on World Environment Day, police said on Saturday.

The event will feature a 10-kilometre mini marathon and a 3-kilometre run, which will flag off from The Ridge in Shimla on June 5, officials said.

Senior officers of the Himachal Pradesh Police, public representatives, educational institutions, sports organisations, volunteers, and environmental groups are likely to participate in the event.

Himachal Director General of Police (DGP) Ashok Tewari said the marathon aims to spread awareness, especially among the youth, about the growing menace of drug abuse, particularly ''chitta,'' while also promoting the importance of a clean and healthy environment.

''The marathon aims to safeguard the future of youth and strengthen social awareness through public participation'', he said.

Tewari appealed to students, youth, sports enthusiasts, educational institutions and social organisations to participate in the event and strengthen the collective mission of building a clean, safe, healthy and drug-free Himachal Pradesh.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu appreciated the initiative and said the youth are the strength and future of our state.

''With this marathon, we aim to inspire our younger generation towards fitness, discipline, environmental responsibility, and a drug-free lifestyle'', he said, appealing to people to actively participate in the marathon.
