The IMD issued a red alert for heat wave conditions at isolated pockets in Mulugu, Khammam and other districts of Telangana for Monday and Tuesday.

In its weather warning issued on Monday, for the next seven days, the Met Centre of IMD here said heatwave conditions are very likely to prevail at isolated pockets in Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem and Khammam districts on Monday.

Warm night conditions are very likely to prevail at isolated pockets in Adilabad, Nizamabad, Hyderabad and other districts on Monday, it said.

Thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty winds is very likely to occur at isolated places in Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak and other districts.

On Tuesday, heatwave conditions are very likely to prevail at isolated pockets in Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem and Khammam districts, it said.

The Met Centre said heatwave conditions are very likely to prevail in isolated pockets on May 27 and 28 as well.

State Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy on May 23 said 16 people died due to heatwave conditions prevailing in the state during the current summer.

The government would provide an ex gratia of Rs 4 lakh each to the kin of the deceased persons, he had said.
