Forest Fires in Jammu and Kashmir Challenge Containment Efforts
Forest fires have swept through Udhampur and Rajouri districts in Jammu and Kashmir. Firefighting teams, alongside local residents, work to control the rapidly spreading blaze, exacerbated by heat and winds. Although no human casualties are reported, significant damage to forest land and wildlife has occurred.

Wildfires continue to devastate large tracts of forest in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur and Rajouri districts. Firefighters, alongside local communities, are combating the expanding inferno fueled by high temperatures and brisk wind conditions.
The fires have predominantly affected the Ghordi area of Udhampur and the Nowshera region in Rajouri. In Udhampur, flames have spread across the Ramnagar Forest Division, notably around Ghordi block's Hartyan panchayat, with areas near Serbala and Upper Barmeen villages under threat. Firefighters face challenges due to strong winds and challenging terrain, severely affecting control operations.
The forest department, aided by the Forest Protection Force, emergency services, and police, are continuously working to quell the flames. Naresh Majotra, Ramnagar Divisional Forest Officer, highlighted the active efforts being made to contain the fires despite the difficult conditions.
While no human casualties have been reported, the environmental toll includes burned forest lands and affected wildlife. With major fires also reported in the Nowshera belt, authorities are urging vigilance and cooperation from residents as efforts to manage the fires continue.
