In a significant conservation milestone, approximately 100 gharial hatchlings have been observed in the Palighat area of the National Chambal Sanctuary in Rajasthan's Dholpur. This achievement highlights ongoing efforts to protect the critically endangered species, according to forest officials.
Manas Singh, from Ranthambore National Park, emphasized the importance of monitoring and patrolling near the sensitive nesting sites. He urged locals and tourists to minimize movement around these areas. Security measures, including protective fencing and restricted human access, have been implemented to ensure hatchling safety. A new gharial rearing center, costing Rs 27.25 lakh, is under development to bolster these efforts.
