India's Foodgrain Yield Set to Break Records in 2025-26

India is poised to witness an unprecedented rise in foodgrain production, marking a record 376.56 million tonnes for the 2025-26 crop year ending in June. This surge, reflecting a 5% increase from the previous year, is bolstered by remarkable outputs of rice, wheat, and maize. Government data attributes these gains to advantageous monsoon rains and strategic policy measures like increased minimum support price (MSP).

Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan celebrated this milestone achievement, praising farmers and highlighting the resilience of the country's agricultural sector. The ministry's third advance estimates showcased wheat production reaching a new peak of 120.65 million tonnes, notwithstanding localized disruptions from unseasonal weather. Additionally, massive growth in maize output and advancements by research institutions played crucial roles in this agricultural success story.
