Taking a proactive step against the relentless summer heat, the Delhi government plans to unveil a solar-powered cooling hut. Situated in northwest Delhi, this initiative aims to provide respite to individuals exposed to extreme temperatures.
The hut, inspired by traditional Indian cooling techniques, will incorporate khus grass padding and a misting system to create a naturally cool environment. This facility, slated for completion by late May, will be launched by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta in early June. It promises not just shade but amenities like cold water dispensers and phone charging stations, all powered by solar energy.
The project doubles as a trial, with plans for expansion based on its success. Additionally, the government has already provided mobile heat relief to over 2.65 lakh people and continues to develop cooling zones across Delhi amid ongoing heatwave conditions.
