Tragic weather conditions in Odisha have resulted in the deaths of three individuals after lightning strikes and severe thunderstorms battered several regions over the past day. The Special Relief Commissioner's office confirmed the fatalities occurred in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Angul districts.

In addition to the tragic loss of life, a total of 94 homes were reported damaged in these areas. Rourkela city also suffered significant damage, with 168 houses affected and numerous trees uprooted. State authorities deployed disaster response teams to assist in clearing debris and restoring essential services.

Residents in affected regions, including Rourkela, voiced their frustrations by staging a road blockade due to prolonged power outages, although this protest subsided after intervention from local officials. In response to the ongoing threat, the India Meteorological Department has issued an orange warning, indicating the need for preparedness across various districts in anticipation of more thunderstorms and heavy rain.

The department has also issued advisories for citizens, emphasizing the importance of taking cover during storms and following safety guidelines. With temperatures soaring above 40 degrees Celsius in several locations, including Bolangir and Sambalpur, the IMD warns of continued intense heat and humidity alongside the looming threat of inclement weather.
