On Wednesday, widespread thunderstorms and rainfall provided much-needed relief from the oppressive heat across Odisha. Despite this, 12 towns still recorded temperatures of 42 degrees Celsius or more, underscoring the continued severity of the heatwave.

Regions such as Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, and Rourkela, among others, experienced gusty winds accompanied by lightning and showers in the afternoon and evening hours. Looking ahead, the IMD forecasts similar weather with thunderstorms and rain for southern and northern coastal areas. An 'orange warning' has been issued for several districts, with a 'yellow warning' for others, indicating the likelihood of continued severe weather conditions.

Even as the storms are set to bring further rain, the heatwave shows no signs of abating quickly, with extremely high temperatures persisting in places like Sambalpur and Bolangir.

As temperatures peaked at 44.2 degrees Celsius in Sambalpur, residents were urged to remain cautious and prepare for both severe weather events and ongoing heat as issued by meteorological authorities.
