Supreme Court Collegium Advocates Elevation of High Court Chiefs and V Mohana

The Supreme Court collegium, in a recent decision, has put forward the names of four high court chief justices and senior advocate V Mohana to be appointed as judges of the Supreme Court.

Meeting on May 22 and May 27, the collegium, under Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, aims to bolster the bench with Chief Justices Sheel Nagu, Shree Chandrashekhar, Sanjeev Sachdeva, and Arun Palli, along with advocate Mohana, enhancing the representation of women in the judiciary.

This recommendation comes soon after the government's ordinance to increase the sanctioned strength of the court from 34 to 38 judges was notified. The expansion aims to accommodate the two upcoming retirements and address the growing need for a larger judiciary.

These judicial appointments are significant steps toward greater inclusivity and adaptation of the Supreme Court to meet India's expanding legal challenges.
