Restrictions Lifted in Delhi-NCR Following Improved Air Quality

The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has lifted stage one restrictions under the Graded Response Action Plan in the Delhi-NCR region due to marked improvements in air quality.

Thanks to favorable weather conditions, Delhi's air quality index (AQI) indicated a reading of 123, categorizing it as 'moderate', according to a report issued on Friday. Weather predictions from the India Meteorological Department and the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology suggest that the AQI should remain at similar levels in the coming days.

The GRAP-1 measures, including the prohibition on the use of coal and firewood in tandoors at hotels and eateries, and restrictions on diesel generators, are now rescinded. The staged restrictions are tied to AQI levels, with GRAP-1 having been initiated since a May 19 order when AQI readings fell between 201 and 300.

As per the Central Pollution Control Board, an AQI from 0 to 50 denotes 'good' quality air, while an AQI of 51-100 is 'satisfactory', and 101-200 'moderate'.
