In an inspiring start to the Rugby Premier League (RPL) season, Hyderabad Heroes have claimed victory in all four matches, topping the standings with 15 points. Central to their success is Javed Hussain, whose extraordinary journey has made him a linchpin for the team. With four tries and 20 points, Hussain isn't just the standout Indian player but ranks seventh overall in the points tally.

'I'm very happy with my team. We understand and support each other. We trust each other and are united as a team,' Hussain expressed in an RPL press release. This cohesion has been pivotal in their victories, including a recent triumph over the Mumbai Dreamers, where Hussain was named 'Player of the Match'.

Despite being at the peak of his performance, Hussain recalls the nervous energy of his early days at GMR RPL. 'When I played my first match, I was a little hopeless, not knowing how I'd fare against the big names,' he said. Originating from humble beginnings in Vasant Kunj, New Delhi, Hussain's entry into rugby is as compelling as his on-field achievements.

He recalls living in makeshift houses, eventually taking up rugby for the lure of 'Tiger' biscuits offered by coaches of the Delhi Hurricanes rugby club. Hussain isn't driven by money or fame, emphasizing his desire to gain experience and exposure. Sharing the locker room with Olympic medallists and global stars, Javed finds value in training alongside names like Joji Nasova, Terio Tamani, and under DJ Forbes, a legendary coach and former captain of the All Blacks Sevens team.

Hussain's dedication to his roots remains profound, symbolized by the 'Mom' and 'Dad' tape wrapped around his hand in every match, paying homage to his family's unwavering support.
