Young fast bowler Harshit Rana, who was a late addition to the Indian cricket squad for the Test series against England, has been released by the team management, sources revealed on Wednesday. Rana, known for his pace and potential, played two Tests in Australia but has found limited success on the international stage so far.
Rana, mentored by head coach Gautam Gambhir, is noted for his off-cutters but faced challenging conditions in the unofficial Test against England Lions. His performance, marked by 99 runs and just one wicket in 27 overs, highlighted his struggle with the demands of top-level cricket.
The decision to keep Rana in the squad was unexpected, especially with more seasoned options like Mukesh Kumar available. Gambhir stated that the selection will be reviewed, and decisions will be made post-discussion with the selectors, after the team's recent five-wicket loss in the opening Test.
