In a landmark achievement, India has secured an impressive 27 medals at the 2025 Asian Para-Badminton Championship in Thailand, marking its best-ever performance at the event. Among these, the Indian team clinched four golds, ten silvers, and thirteen bronzes, underscoring a commendable comeback on the continental scene.
Leading the charge was Paris Paralympic gold medalist Nitesh Kumar, who displayed exceptional skill and composure under pressure to bag three gold medals. Reflecting on his experience in high-stakes matches, Nitesh noted the mental strength required. "I enjoy playing in gold medal matches, where I focus point by point," he shared, crediting his calmness and tactical approach for his success.
The victory is particularly significant as it marks India's return to the championship after missing an edition due to COVID-19. Despite some missed opportunities for additional golds, the overall morale was positive. Nitesh, along with Sukant Kadam, also claimed victory in the men's doubles SL3-SL4 category, while further success followed in the men's singles and mixed doubles events, affirming India's status as a strong contender on the international stage.
