Australian cricket icon Greg Chappell has voiced his concerns about India's lack of variety in their bowling lineup during the first Test against England at Headingley. The absence of left-arm seamer Arshdeep Singh and wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav, both recommended by Chappell, has been pinpointed as a pivotal issue affecting India's performance.
India's inaugural Test match woes were compounded by a five-wicket defeat and a fielding display that saw eight missed opportunities. Yet, Chappell insists that the defeat was largely self-inflicted, highlighting incidents like the costly no-ball in the second innings that benefited England's Harry Brook.
Chappell criticized the uniformity of India's right-arm seamers, including Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, and Shardul Thakur, urging the inclusion of contrasting bowlers such as Singh and Yadav. He argued that a balanced team is crucial for securing victories, underlining the need for selectors to make brave choices to reverse India's fortunes in the ongoing series.
