Mahendra Singh Dhoni, former captain of the Indian cricket team, has made headlines once again, this time for filing a trademark application for the phrase 'CAPTAIN COOL'. This moniker has long been associated with his impeccable calmness on the cricket field.

The application, dated June 5, 2023, has already been accepted and advertised, as per the Trade Marks Registry portal. However, it wasn't a straightforward affair, as a previous claim for the phrase by Prabha Skill Sports (OPC) Pvt Ltd is in the status of 'rectification filed'.

The trademark is categorized under sports training and related services. A legal expert, Nilanshu Shekhar, highlighted the four-month period during which others may file objections. Without any opposition by October 15, 2025, the trademark will likely be granted to Dhoni.
