The Pakistan hockey team's anticipated return to the FIH Pro League in the 2025-26 season is in jeopardy due to severe financial constraints. The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF), facing a cash crunch, is struggling to muster funds to send the team, once three-time Olympic champions, to the league.
Despite receiving a formal invitation from the International Hockey Federation (FIH) to compete against top global teams, the PHF has appealed for 700 million rupees ($2.5 million) from the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) to fund the campaign. However, the PSB, citing previous financial mismanagement by the PHF, has refused additional funding.
This financial predicament raises concerns over Pakistan's ability to participate in the Pro League, with PSB officials possibly seeking intervention from the Prime Minister to allocate special funds. Rasheedul Hassan, a former Olympic gold medallist, has criticized PHF officials for tarnishing the federation's credibility over the years.
