On the eve of the crucial fifth Test against England at The Oval, Indian captain Shubman Gill addressed the press, touching upon the availability of pace ace Jasprit Bumrah and the potential Test debut of left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh. India, riding high after a resilient draw at Old Trafford, seeks to draw level in the series as the final showdown begins this Thursday.

One of the central discussions leading into the Test is the status of Jasprit Bumrah. Expected to feature in three out of the five matches, Bumrah's fitness is under scrutiny following a taxing performance at Manchester where he recorded figures of 2/112. Speaking on Bumrah's potential inclusion, Gill remarked, "We are going to take a decision tomorrow. The wicket looks pretty green, so we will see how it turns out." Despite the concerns, Bumrah remains India's standout bowler, snaring 14 wickets at an average above 26, including two five-wicket hauls.

Gill also elaborated on the possible debut for Arshdeep Singh, stating that a decision would be made later in the evening. "He is definitely being asked to get ready," Gill commented. "We are going to make a decision later this evening. I will go and have a look at the wicket. I have not had a chance to look at the wicket. See how the weather is going to be in the next five days and then make a decision." With prior experience in the English County Championship and an effective IPL season, Arshdeep, who claimed 13 wickets for Kent, is a potential candidate for elevation in the squad.

Reflecting on the series, Gill termed it a "great learning curve" for his captaincy, maintaining that the scoreline does not truly reflect India's competitive spirit. "I think every match that we played was tough to call even after four days of cricket," Gill noted. "If we can consistently challenge despite playing outside of India with a young team, leveling the series would be a significant accomplishment."
