In a strategic move, Shardul Thakur has been appointed captain of the West Zone team for the upcoming Duleep Trophy, marking a return to its traditional zonal format this September.
The 15-member squad notably includes India international players like Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shreyas Iyer. However, veteran cricketers Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara are not part of the team this time around, as the tournament marks the opener for the 2025-26 domestic season.
Distinctively, the tournament will include only zonal teams following last year's national selectors' format involving teams India A through D. Selection for West Zone was conducted by a committee led by Mumbai's Sanjay Patil.
