Spain has reclaimed the top position in FIFA's women's rankings, dethroning the United States. Spain's rise comes despite its loss to England in the European Championship final last month.
Previously, the U.S. held the No. 1 spot since August, after their gold medal victory at the Paris Olympics. Spain had been ranked first from December 2023 until June of the previous year following their World Cup win.
The latest rankings, released by FIFA on Thursday, show England moving up one place to fourth after winning consecutive European Championships. Meanwhile, Brazil dropped to seventh, despite winning their ninth Copa America title. Sweden and France made notable upward moves due to their performances in the Euros, with Sweden reaching third and France ascending to sixth.
