Six young rifle and pistol shooters from Pune faced a setback when they missed their Akasa Air flight to Goa due to extended security checks for their shooting equipment. The athletes, all under 18, were en route to compete in the 12th West Zone Shooting Championship.
According to Akasa Air, the shooters encountered 'extended security procedures' involving their specialized equipment, which prevented them from boarding on time. The airline expressed regret over the incident, stating that alternative travel arrangements were underway to ensure the shooters could reach the championship.
The incident drew criticism from Gun For Glory, the shooting academy founded by Olympian Gagan Narang. They highlighted the impact on the athletes' competition schedule, questioning the responsibility for the delay. Akasa Air maintained that passenger well-being and procedural compliance are their priorities.
