Leicester City, once the unlikeliest of Premier League champions, will now compete in the third tier of English soccer next season, marking a significant downturn in its sporting fortunes. The club confirmed relegation after drawing 2-2 with Hull, a result that kept them entrenched at the bottom of the Championship.
Prominent for their fairytale title win in 2016, Leicester's recent history has been marred by financial sanctions and poor form on the pitch. Earlier this year, the club was docked six points for breaching English Football League financial regulations, sealing their relegation fate.
The club's chairman, Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha, has expressed remorse over their current plight, stating, "We have experienced the highest highs and now the lowest lows, and the pain is shared by all of us." Efforts are underway to rebuild Leicester and restore its former glory.
