Komal Kohar: Bronze Triumph at Asian Weightlifting Championships

Komal Kohar made India proud by clinching a bronze medal in the women's 48kg category at the Asian Weightlifting Championships on Monday. The young lifter impressed with her calm demeanor, lifting a total of 177kg, comprising 78kg in snatch and 99kg in clean and jerk.

In the absence of major contenders like China, North Korea, and Thailand, the competition still saw fierce rivalry. Chinese Taipei emerged as the dominant force, securing the top two spots with Huang Yi Chen and Fang Wan-Ling lifting 193kg and 192kg, respectively.

Kohar's performance was significant as she replaced the esteemed Tokyo silver medalist Mirabai Chanu, stepping up to the challenge in a non-Olympic class event. Her achievement in the clean and jerk earned her an additional bronze, marking a commendable start for hosts India.
