Ladakh Unveils India's Highest Astro Turf Sports Complex at 11,500 Feet

In a landmark event on Tuesday, the highest Astro Turf football ground in India was inaugurated in Ladakh by Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena. The sports ground, built at an altitude of 11,500 feet, is accompanied by a newly-constructed VIP stand and an eight-lane synthetic athletic track, opening a new chapter in sports infrastructure for the Union Territory.

Costing over Rs 30 crore, the comprehensive sports complex includes long jump pits, handball and volleyball courts, and spectator galleries. Officials aim for the facility to bolster year-round sporting activities despite Ladakh's challenging climate, enhancing opportunities for local youth to train at an international standard within their own region.

The Lieutenant Governor hailed this advancement as a symbol of increased dedication to youth development and sports engagement. He attributed the fruition of this project to the government's ongoing support and expressed hopes for Ladakh to nurture future national and international athletes. An exhibition relay race and a football match marked the inauguration celebration.
