India's Olympic Aspirations: Gujarat's Strategic Role

A meeting aimed at reviewing preparations for India's Commonwealth Games took an unexpected turn as discussions veered towards the country's bid to host the 2036 Olympics. Held on Thursday, the assembly saw Gujarat's Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi join Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya for the talks.

The meeting also focused on Gujarat's role as the host for the 2030 Commonwealth Games edition after the 2026 closing ceremony in Glasgow. Although no conclusive decisions were made about the Olympic bid, attendees discussed strategies to advance India's position once the bidding process restarts later this year or early next year.

In addition to these discussions, preparation strategies for the Commonwealth Games 2026 were reviewed. Ensuring smooth coordination among stakeholders and fortifying support systems for Indian athletes are top priorities. The assembly also examined progress on inter-ministerial coordination, which involves multiple departments for operational and logistical support as the sporting calendar intensifies.
