India's Under-20 football squad will vie against Uzbekistan, Syria, and Bangladesh in Group B during the AFC U-20 Asian Cup 2027 Qualifiers in Tashkent. Scheduled from August 25 to September 6, the matches will happen in a single round-robin format at a centralized location.
The AFC introduced a new dual-phase system for youth competitions, featuring a promotion and relegation mechanism. This year, 32 teams split into eight groups, each striving for a position in the 43rd Asian Cup by winning their group or ending as one of the seven best runners-up.
India, aiming for their first qualification since 2006, was placed in Pot 3 based on their ranking. Despite a narrow miss in 2025, the team hopes to draw from their storied history, where their standout achievement was as joint champions in 1974 alongside Iran. The revamped format also stipulates relegation to the Development Phase for the lowest-ranked teams, keeping the competition fierce.
