Rashid Khan's Record Low: IPL Playoff Shock for Star Spinner

In the IPL 2026 Qualifier 2, Rashid Khan endured his worst economy rate, conceding 45 runs in 2 overs for Gujarat Titans. His 20th over against Rajasthan Royals equaled the record for most expensive spinner over in IPL playoffs, previously set by Ravi Bishnoi in 2022.

In a surprising turn of events during the IPL 2026 Qualifier 2 match, Afghanistan's premier spinner Rashid Khan experienced the most challenging outing of his T20 career, recording the highest economy rate in matches where he bowled at least two overs. Representing Gujarat Titans, Rashid's figures of 0/45 in 2 overs contributed to a 22.5 runs-per-over economy against the Rajasthan Royals.

This performance stands as Rashid's highest economy rate across 524 T20 innings, surpassing his previous record of 18.00 against the Lucknow Super Giants in Ahmedabad during IPL 2025. During that encounter, he allowed 36 runs over two overs. Highlighting the struggle was the final over against Rajasthan, where Donovan Ferreira launched an assault with four sixes, tallying 27 runs.

The costly over matched the record for the most expensive by a spinner in IPL playoffs, previously set by Ravi Bishnoi against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the 2022 Eliminator. Meanwhile, Ferreira continues to dominate death overs, amassing 582 runs with a strike rate of 223.84 since IPL 2025, the highest among peers with over 100 deliveries in this range.
