Jake Gordon Sidelines: Achilles Injury Rules Out Nations Championship
Jake Gordon, Australia's scrumhalf, is sidelined for the Nations Championship tests against Ireland, France, and Italy due to an Achilles surgery. Injured during a Super Rugby match, Gordon's absence opens up opportunities for Tate McDermott and Ryan Lonergan to step up in the upcoming tournament matches.
Jake Gordon, a crucial player for Australia's rugby team, will miss the Nations Championship tests scheduled against Ireland, France, and Italy this July. The scrumhalf underwent surgery following an Achilles injury during the New South Wales Waratahs' final Super Rugby Pacific match, in which they lost to Western Force.
The Waratahs announced that the 32-year-old had the operation on Monday, effectively ruling him out for the upcoming championship games. Despite frequent injuries, Gordon was the preferred choice of Wallabies coach Joe Schmidt for the 2025 season.
In Gordon's absence, Tate McDermott is expected to take the starting scrumhalf position, with Ryan Lonergan from ACT Brumbies likely filling in as a reserve. Australia's series of test matches will open against Ireland on July 4 in Sydney.
