Elon Musk's xAI Embraces EU AI Safety Standards

Elon Musk's xAI has announced its intention to sign the safety and security chapter of the European Union's code of practice on artificial intelligence. The code, devised to help companies align with EU's AI regulations, is intended to provide legal clarity for those who comply voluntarily.

While the code includes chapters on transparency, copyright, and safety and security, xAI has currently committed only to the latter. The company expressed concerns about aspects of the code it views as hindering innovation, particularly its copyright requirements.

Despite xAI's commitment, other major tech firms have not uniformly embraced the EU code. Google's Alphabet and Microsoft's leaders have indicated a willingness to sign, while Facebook-owner Meta has declined, citing concerns about legal uncertainties.
