UK's Knife Crime Crackdown: 1,000 Weapons Surrendered Under Amnesty
The British government's recent amnesty aimed at tackling knife crime has seen at least 1,000 weapons surrendered. Despite the crackdown, with bans on certain knives and tougher laws, charities and experts criticize the measures for not addressing the root causes of the violence.

At least 1,000 weapons have been surrendered under a British government amnesty designed to combat rising knife crime, the interior ministry revealed on Friday. This effort coincides with a new ban on ninja swords and stricter regulations on weapon purchases.
Knife crime in England and Wales surged 87% over the past decade, with offenses reaching 54,587 last year. A distressing incident in July 2024 involved teenager Axel Rudakubana attacking a children's dance event in Southport, resulting in three deaths and 10 injuries.
The government's measures include heightened age checks for knife buyers and penalties for social media platforms uncurbed weapon sales promotions. However, experts argue these actions fail to address the underlying issues driving youth violence.
