In a major drive to modernize rural financial infrastructure, Himachal Pradesh has completed the computerisation of 870 Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS), Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri announced. This initiative is part of a larger plan to digitally enhance 1,789 PACS with an allocated budget of Rs 53 crore.
The computerisation efforts are intended to bring greater transparency and efficiency to these cooperative societies. Agnihotri emphasized that this project transcends mere technical upgrades, aiming to fortify social trust and improve economic governance. The state's strategy includes the development of PACS into Common Service Centres (CSCs) to provide an array of digital services.
Additionally, to aid in achieving transparency, Himachal Pradesh is integrating these societies into the National Cooperative Database for advanced monitoring through Geographic Information System (GIS) technology. The government is also investing in training auditors to strengthen the audit mechanisms, aiming for comprehensive audits by September 2025.
