Dhruva Space Secures Significant Grant for Project Garud to Revolutionize Satellite Manufacturing
Dhruva Space, based in Hyderabad, has secured Rs 105 crore from the Centre's RDIF for Project Garud. This initiative aims to develop a standardized 500 kg-class satellite platform for high-volume deployments, enhancing India's satellite production capabilities and reducing dependency on foreign technology.
In a significant boost to India's space manufacturing capabilities, Hyderabad-based start-up Dhruva Space has been awarded a Rs 105 crore grant by the Centre's Research, Development and Innovation Fund (RDIF) for its ambitious Project Garud. The project focuses on creating a standardized 500 kg-class satellite platform designed to support high-volume satellite deployment.
The company's co-founder, Abhay Egoor, stated that the indigenous satellite platform would enhance India's satellite deployment capacity across communications, intelligence, and strategic applications. The platform is characterized by a flat-pack architecture, facilitating efficient launch stacking, rapid system integration, and accelerated deployment timelines.
By developing a made-in-India satellite architecture, Project Garud aims to reduce reliance on foreign technology and strengthen the nation's supply chain resilience. The start-up plans to establish infrastructure and industrial processes for high-volume production, capable of manufacturing up to 600 satellites annually, thus bolstering India's strategic space capabilities.
