Traffic on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was brought to a standstill early Thursday as heavy rains triggered multiple landslides and falling stones in the Ramban district, according to officials.

Ramban market was also affected by a flash flood, though no casualties were reported. The highway, which serves as the only all-weather road linking Kashmir to the rest of the country, saw vehicular movement suspended at 7:30 am due to the adverse weather conditions. With mudslides and shooting stones prevalent between Seeri and Nachlana, hundreds of vehicles have been stranded on both sides.

Authorities have cautioned all commuters to avoid traveling on NH-44 until the weather improves. The meteorological department has forecast further rain and potential landslide-prone conditions until May 11 and expects an increase in temperature from May 13.
