West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee issued a stern warning to traders on Thursday, advising them against hiking prices of essential goods. This move comes amid elevated national tensions following military actions against terror camps in Pakistan and PoK as part of 'Operation Sindoor.'
In a meeting with the Agriculture Marketing Department, Banerjee expressed her determination to curb price hikes in vegetables, fish, and meat through black market activities, emphasizing strict state surveillance. She assured the public that most commodity prices remained stable, with only a few minor increases.
Highlighting concerns over chicken pricing, Banerjee proposed a shift towards duck meat production, advocating for self-help group involvement. She instructed agencies to uphold permissible limits for fish and chicken prices and stressed strategic use of waterbodies for pisciculture, along with increased cold storage capacity.
