In a major infrastructural boost for Indian Railways, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the induction of 100 mainline EMUs with 16 and 20 coaches, aimed at streamlining short-distance travel. This was revealed during the inauguration of India's largest Gati Shakti Multi Modal Cargo Terminal at Maruti Suzuki, Manesar, alongside CM Nayab Singh Saini.
The minister elaborated on plans to introduce 50 new Namo Bharat trains, and detailed the ongoing development of approximately 1,300 Amrit Stations, an initiative integrated under the Amrit Bharat Station Yojana. Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched this scheme to modernize railway stations, with 100 stations set for completion by December 2025.
Addressing the issue of ticketing fraud, Vaishnaw outlined measures to curb unauthorized bookings of Tatkal tickets by implementing mandatory KYC from July 1. Additionally, an experimental change in the Bikaner division allows the reservation chart to be displayed 24 hours in advance, receiving positive feedback from the public.
