Cachar district's Doloo Tea Estate may soon be transformed as Assam plans a greenfield airport. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed the completion of a public hearing, a critical step for this ambitious project. However, the details about public consent remain undisclosed.
The state government envisions the airport as a major connectivity enhancer for Barak Valley. Sarma termed the peaceful conclusion of the hearing a 'significant milestone' and expressed gratitude to stakeholders.
Though the government's initiative is advancing, it's been met with some resistance. Inhabitants and workers of Doloo Tea Estate, supported by AMSU, have voiced dissent, demanding alternative land solutions. The government has pledged financial aid and no job losses for affected individuals.
