Heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh has precipitated a spate of building collapses, landslides, and road blockades, creating chaos across the state. According to state emergency operations, over 259 roads and numerous water and electricity supply lines have been disrupted due to adverse weather conditions.
Since the onset of the monsoon on June 20, 23 lives have been tragically lost to rain-induced incidents. The state recorded 135 mm of rain in June, markedly exceeding the normal 101 mm, as per historical data. Emergency officials emphasize the pressing need for vigilance amid these heightened climatic challenges.
Officials, including Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi, have warned both tourists and residents to heed weather advisories. Meanwhile, infrastructure developments have also come under scrutiny, with allegations of negligence contributing to building collapses. Authorities are working diligently to clear roads and restore normalcy as more rain is anticipated.
