The Railway Ministry has taken a significant step towards enhancing train safety and efficiency by forming a six-member committee of senior officials. The committee's mandate is to review and recommend updates to the General Rules, keeping pace with modern technological and operational demands.

Comprising top officials from various railway departments, including Traffic Transportation, Safety, Civil Engineering, Signal, and Electrical Engineering, and led by the Dean of the Indian Railways Institute of Transport Management, the committee will aim to ensure harmony and discipline in train operations. It is tasked with incorporating important subsidiary rules, aligning guidelines with technological advancements, and eliminating outdated practices.

The decision comes in the wake of the Kanchanjunga Express accident and subsequent recommendations by the Commission of Railway Safety for uniform speed regulations. The committee has been instructed to deliver its report within two months from its inception, ensuring prompt action towards systemic improvements.
