Tragedy Strikes as SUV Plunges into Saryu Canal

A tragic accident occurred in Gonda district, Uttar Pradesh, on Sunday when an SUV carrying 15 passengers veered off-course and plunged into the Saryu canal, resulting in the unfortunate deaths of 11 individuals and injuring four, according to police reports.
The group was en route to the Prithvinath Temple in Khargupur from Sihagaon village, offering holy water, when the SUV slipped on a rain-slicked road and fell into the canal, said Station House Officer Krishn Gopal Rai. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed sorrow and announced financial aid for the victims' families.
Rescue efforts involved local villagers and emergency teams who successfully retrieved the submerged vehicle and its passengers. Among the deceased were six women, two men, and three children, while four individuals, including the driver, survived. Gonda's Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also announced financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh for the deceased's families, underscoring the profound impact of the incident.
