Progress on Tracks: NDM-6 Trials for Darjeeling Railway

The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) announced the successful completion of the final trial run for the NDM-6 Diesel-Hydraulic Locomotive on the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR). The trial, conducted on the route from Darjeeling to Siliguri, confirmed the loco's readiness for operation.
The NDM-6 loco, tailored for narrow gauge heritage routes, boasts upgraded safety features and improved reliability. Its introduction aims to enhance operational efficiency, ensuring safer and more sustainable travel along the picturesque hill route, a UNESCO World Heritage section.
This initiative is part of routine safety and performance evaluations before regular deployment. Two more NDM-6 locos are set to join the DHR soon, underscoring NFR's commitment to the modernization and preservation of heritage railway systems.
