No Major Inflation Impact from US Tariffs, Says RBI Chief

In a statement made on Wednesday, Reserve Bank Governor Sanjay Malhotra reassured that the newly imposed US tariffs are not expected to cause a 'major impact' on domestic inflation.
Addressing the media at the central bank headquarters, Malhotra acknowledged a potential impact if India retaliated with tariffs, though he considered such a scenario unlikely.
Deputy Governor Poonam Gupta elaborated, pointing out that food items, constituting half the consumer price index basket, have limited global exposure, and many other non-tradeable items in the basket are insulated from international developments such as tariffs.
