A catastrophic collision between a cargo ship and a fishing boat off the coast of Maharashtra could have ended in tragedy. However, thanks to the swift response from nearby vessels, the lives of 15 sailors were saved, district officials reported on Saturday.
The incident occurred approximately three nautical miles from the shore on August 14. The impact was so severe that four sailors from the 'Shri Sai' boat were thrown into the water. Remarkably, they managed to get back on board. On receiving a distress signal, 'Jai Sai Priya' and 'Jai Sai Ram,' two nearby boats, rushed to their aid.
The fishing crews not only rescued the sailors but also secured the damaged boat. Despite battling high winds and surging waves, they started towing the vessel towards Murbe port. The rescue operation extended into the next day before the boat was finally docked safely at Satpati-Murbe port, averting a potential disaster at sea.
