The commerce and industry ministry has issued a directive for physical retail chains to actively promote discounts resulting from recent GST rate reductions. This move aims to make consumers aware of cost benefits under the revised tax structure.
The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) communicated to the Retailers Association of India that these savings should be clearly indicated on customer receipts and emphasized for high-impact items. The department suggests using posters, flyers, and advertisements across various media, including print, TV, and online platforms.
As the GST overhaul takes effect on September 22, prices for a wide range of 400 products will drop. The revised GST structure introduces a simplified slab system, with a 5 percent rate for commonly used goods and an 18 percent rate for other items. Essential food items like bread and milk are exempt.
