Taiwan has unveiled a revamped civil defence handbook to bolster civilian preparedness against the backdrop of increasing tensions with China. The comprehensive guide, rolled out on Tuesday, aims to foster public self-defence awareness amid China's intensified military presence and exercise drills targeting the island.
Released by the All-out Defence Mobilization Agency, the handbook features detailed checklists and emergency strategies catering to scenarios from military threats to natural disasters like earthquakes. Shen Wei-chih, the agency's director, stressed the necessity for enhanced public crisis knowledge, especially in light of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Highlighting the urgency of civilian input in defence, Taiwan's administration under President Lai Ching-te has emphasized public readiness. In parallel, initiatives like civil defence courses by Kuma Academy, supported by substantial donations, underscore the growing societal focus on countering invasion threats.
