State-owned MOIL has made a significant move by initiating the export of manganese ore fines to Indonesia, marking its entry into the international market. This is the company's first venture as a State Trading Enterprise, according to MOIL CMD Ajit Kumar Saxena.
Appointed by the Government of India, MOIL is now responsible for the exportation of manganese ore below 46% grade. On August 22, 2025, the company shipped its inaugural consignment of 54,600 tonnes from Visakhapatnam to Indonesia.
This venture is strategically important as it addresses India's surplus of low-grade manganese ore, which exceeds domestic demand. By exporting this commodity, India enhances its global presence and increases its foreign earnings. MOIL, under the Ministry of Steel, stands as India's largest manganese ore producer, operating 10 mines in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh.
