India Strengthens Trade Pathways Amid Tariffs: UAE Not a Transit Hub for US Exports
Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal emphasized that India will not use the UAE as a trans-shipment hub for exporting to the US, amid high tariffs. Indian exports rerouted to neighboring regions labeled 'Made in India' are encouraged. This strategy aims to bolster trade ties, despite US-imposed tariffs.
In a significant policy announcement, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal stated that India will not support the rerouting of its domestic goods through the UAE to reach the United States. This comes in response to the US imposing steep 50 percent tariffs on many Indian exports.
Minister Goyal conveyed that while exports to neighboring Asian and African countries from the UAE are welcome, any attempt to trans-ship to the US through the UAE is strongly discouraged. The Indian government seeks to enhance direct trade pathways to other regions to promote authentic 'Made in India' products.
These remarks were made during the 13th India-UAE High-Level Task Force on Investments, highlighting the ongoing efforts to strengthen trade relations with the Middle Eastern nation while navigating the challenges posed by US tariffs.
