In the past ten days, more than 1.3 lakh metric tonnes of fresh fruit have been successfully transported from Kashmir to markets nationwide, as per officials on Monday. The efficient operation is the result of meticulous coordination between traffic authorities, including the district administration and the Border Roads Organisation (BRO).
At a recent press conference, Kashmir Divisional Commissioner Anshul Garg detailed the transportation process, highlighting an average daily turnout of 1,500-2,000 trucks laden with fresh produce. These trucks follow an alternate-day dispatch schedule through the national highway and the historic Mughal Road.
Despite previous disruptions caused by inclement weather, restoration efforts have boosted capacity allowing up to 4,000 trucks to traverse the highway daily. Furthermore, the new parcel train from Baramulla and Anantnag enhances logistical efficiency. Garg assured that essential supplies remain robust, urging people to dispel panic-induced rumors.
