The Uttar Pradesh government is set to embark on a GPS-based survey of sugarcane crops from May 1 to June 30 for the 2026-27 crushing season. Farmers registered with the Cane Development and Sugar Industry Department will receive SMS notifications three days in advance of the survey.
The initiative, driven by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's directives, involves teams comprising government supervisors and sugar mill representatives who will be trained for the exercise. The survey's goal is accurate data collection, ranging from land area to cane variety, with records updated directly to the department's server.
Cane and Sugar Commissioner Veena Kumari Meena emphasized the benefits of the GPS-based survey in preventing data manipulation and ensuring precise production estimates. The process facilitates timely payments to farmers, who can verify their data via the revenue department's website, and introduces new registrations for farmers while ensuring transparency in operations.
